Daily class requirements 25% of grade

- 1 st speech Gettysburg Address (15%)
- Informative speech (15%)
- Lincoln/Douglas style debate (20%)
Formal Test and Evaluation 25% of Grade
Course Objectives
All Students are required to:
- Memorize and present the Gettysburg Address. Grades will be based on accuracy of memorization, ability to connect with the audience during delivery, and the ability to demonstrate all public speaking skills covered in class in the first two weeks.
- Outline, research, write, and deliver a five minute informative speech on topics chosen in class. Grades will be based on completeness of outline, time spent on quality research, quality of written speech, and delivery of the speech.
- Prepare and research for Lincoln/Douglas style debate. With one student for and with one against a given topic, students will prepare and debate for five minutes. This will be followed by an extemporaneous rebuttal by each student. Grades will be based on how well the student prepared for the debate, delivery style, and ability to connect with the audience.
- Take a Final Exam which will be to outline, research, write, and deliver a 3 to 5 minute inspirational speech on an approved subject. This speech will be presented during lower school or upper school chapel. (students will be assigned at random to the chapel they will present their speech) Grade will be based on completeness of outline, quality of the written speech, presentation, stage presence, and the ability to relate to the audience.

- My style of teaching involves a great deal of interaction between the teacher and students as well as among students in class. Therefore, I will place great emphasis on class participation and a significant portion of your grade will be derived from your willful, intelligent, and active engagement with me and your classmates.
