The study of classic and contemporary literature with an integration of grammar and writing skills. This course meets the course description of English I with heightened expectations and challenges. There is a summer assignment in this course.
English III
Grade 11, Full Year
Prerequisite: English II
The study of American literature with an integration of grammar and writing skills. A research paper is required in this course.
Honors English III
Grade 11, Full Year
Prerequisite: Grade of A or B in English II, a minimum PSAT verbal score of 40, and Teacher approval

Dual Enrollment English (Sampson Community College)
Grade 12, Full Year
Prerequisite: Grade of A or B in English III, students must satisfy requirements for Dual Enrollment courses English 111 and English 113 must be taken sequentially.
English 111 is designed to develop the ability to produce clear expository prose. Emphasis is placed on the writing process including audience analysis, topic selection, thesis support and development, editing, and revision. Upon completion, students should be able to produce unified, coherent, well-developed essays.
English 113 expands the concepts developed in English 111 by focusing on writing that involves literature-based research and documentation. Emphasis is placed on critical reading, thinking, and the analysis and interpretation of prose, characterization, theme, cultural context, essays and research papers that analyze and respond to literary works.

The study of world literature with an integration of grammar and writing skills, including a research paper comparing literary works.

The study of British literature with an integration of grammar and writing skills. A research paper is required in this course.
A.P. English IV

Prerequisite: Grade of A or B in English III, a minimum PSAT verbal score of 40, and Teacher approval
The study of British literature with an integration of grammar and writing skills. The areas of literary terminology and response prove to be challenging, as students prepare for the AP exam. This course meets the course description of English IV with heightened expectations and challenges. There is a summer assignment in this course.

Creative Writing
Grade 10, 11, 12, One semester
Prerequisite: None
This course is directed towards persons who are interested in or who show special talent in the field of writing and literature and are working on, or interested in working on: a script, novel, collection of short stories, or other project. During the course, teaching is based on the student’s own projects, which are used as study material and discussed and developed further.
