Course Title: Life Management Under God, Christian Ethics

Credit Hours: .5

Grade Levels: 9 th Grade

Description and Course Objectives: Managing your life successfully in this contemporary world is not easy, but it is possible. Through this course, each student will be able to make a commitment to Christ through understanding that God promises us success. In the bible, God promised Joshua success if Joshua would obey God’s laws (Joshua 1:7). As students study “Life Management under God”, keep in mind God’s formula for success. The following topics will be discussed: Job success, managing money, getting along with parents, illegal drugs, dating, preparing for marriage, alcohol and tobacco use, first aid, sexually transmitted diseases, living with your marriage partner, divorce from biblical perspective, sex and abstinence. Each topic will be discussed and biblical references will be studied to allow the student to make educated life decisions.

Classroom Policies and Procedures

 

If the following requirements are met, this semester or school year will be enjoyable!

 

    • Attendance-According to the HCA handbook, you may miss 15 class periods for a yearlong course and 9 class periods for a semester course. If you know in advance that you will be out, please let me know so that I may give you your reading and class assignments. Also, if you are out for sickness or a family circumstance, class work must be made up within 5 school days of being absent.
    • Participation-Being alert in class and active in discussions will enhance not only your learning experience but also the class as a whole. Plan to be a part of open discussions and ask questions. You will be given handouts to follow along in class. Take notes and keep all of your handouts in your notebook for easy access for class assignments and studying for tests.
    • Homework Assignments-Most of your homework will be from handouts or from reading scripture in the bible. You will also be assigned projects (usually 2 a semester) to help supplement your learning. This will also include Writing Across the Curriculum Assignments.
    • Logistics-Handwritten work will be accepted unless told otherwise. Please place your first and last name with the date in the top right hand corner of the paper. A binder will be needed for this course and occasionally notebook checks will take place. 5 points will be taken off your participation grade each time you don’t have your notebook. Be Prepared!!
    • Personal Conduct-Respect is earned not just given. I am here to be your teacher, mentor and guide-not necessarily your friend. I will work beyond your expectations to create a biblically based atmosphere in order for you to learn more about yourself and what God has in store for your life. Together we can strengthen our relationships with Christ. The following guidelines outline the behavioral expectations that I have for each of you and delineate the consequences should you choose to display inappropriate behavior.

 

Activity Behavior Expected

Teacher Lecture Take notes, engage in conversation, ask questions, make comments etc.
DVD’s remain quiet and attentive

Class work work on task within time allotted

Tests and Quizzes remain seated and quiet

Guest Speakers take notes, be attentive, respectful

 

General Expectations

  1. Stay engaged with the current activity.
  2. Be respectful and do not holler out in class or be disruptive.
  3. Bathroom breaks should be taken at the beginning or the end of the class period. Do not interrupt to be dismissed during lecture time.
  4. Cell phones are not permitted at any time. They will be confiscated if seen.
  5. Water is allowed in class. No chewing gum at any time.

 

Failure to adhere to the general expectations will result in

 

1 st offense-verbal warning

2 nd offense-memorization exercise from The Bible or Friday School

3 rd offense-loss of 5 points from your final course average

 

  1. Quality Counts

 

Plagiarism is a serious offense. Make sure the work that you put your name on is indeed YOUR work. The HCA handbook defines the punishment for plagiarism.
