Lower School Physical Education
The physical education department at Harrells Christian Academy is structured to build on coordination, balance, and competing in team sports.
Kindergarten – First Grade:
- Skipping, jumping, hopping, catching, throwing, and tumbling
- Sustain a moderate to vigorous pace for physical activity for short periods of time
- Identify likes and dislikes connected with participation and recognize the joy of participation
- Recognize the joy of shared play and the willingness to interact positively with students in class
- Learn the rules for participating and how to handle equipment safely
- Learn listening skills and the ability to follow directions
Second Grade – Third Grade:
- Build on physical fitness through team games, dance, and tumbling
- Learn to demonstrate good sportsmanship and other positive behaviors related to physical activity
- Play and cooperate with others regardless of personal differences and to learn to treat others with respect during play
- Apply rules, procedures, and safe practices requiring little or no reinforcement
- Work cooperatively with others to complete an assigned task
Fourth Grade – Fifth Grade:
- Participate in the Presidential Physical Fitness Program and all major sports are taught. These sports include: volleyball, tennis, basketball, football, baseball, soccer, etc.
- Participate regularly in physical activities for the purpose of improving skill and health
- Work independently in pursuit of personal fitness goals
- Make conscious decisions about applying rules and procedures
- Utilize time effectively to complete assigned tasks
Work cooperatively and productively in a group to accomplish a set goal in both cooperative and competitive activities.
